Description

11X14 acrylic on canvas of a very comforting pose.

The poem below goes with the above image. Like the image suggests this is a poem and piece about turning in on oneself. Being an introvert myself, going inward is a reflective and necessary part of survival, sometimes a person just has to let the outside world drip off them to find themself again.

Introversion

In my cocoon
The silent world
Through pale sinew
Drawn up in cobwebs
The silver thread spun from my body
And I with crossed arms
It’s all my doing
This shell
This heart
The warming pulse
I wanted it
With all the pieces
For all of life
To come together inside
And rage again into a dream
With a hidden face
Curled up in fetal darkness
Whispering so quietly
What I can’t see won’t hurt me
If I stand still no one will see
Those quaking nerves
And ruptured veins,
Through the dim illusion
Of my second skin
That armored flesh that blends so well
Into crowds of loud and smiling people
Talking the same hollow fodder
I never really listened to,
Never really learned
Though it falls and drips off me
Like rain on a cool tin roof
Against my illusion hard as rock
I don’t feel a thing
As I sit with my eyes closed
The silent prayer my mantra,
Let me dream a little longer
Don’t pry apart my shadow
I’ll pull together all the pieces
I lost along the way
And come out from my silent world
Someday soon I pray.
